TO DATE a total of 32 hunting accidents have been reported to the Game Commission, according to Safety Officer James Kerrick. Of this total, six have been fatal with four of those reported as being self inflicted. Shotguns figured in 20 of the accidents with five of the fatalities having been shotgun related.
Nearly half of the accidents involved poor hunter judgement, such as shooting into dense cover, losing track of hunting companions and failing to identify targets. The remainder were caused by various examples of sloppy gun handling, including falling with
