“Just look at the bill for our jail,” added Pete Luke. “For a period of 60 days, the bill came to $116.68, and of that, $24.52 was for fuel adjustment. I looked at my own bills for a year ago, and the fuel adjustment used to be a nickel or a few cents—last month it was $21.”
“We’re not getting the whole truth from the utility companies,” said George Davis.
“Something’s gotta be done,” agreed Luke. “Everybody has conserved and cut back, so what do they do? They up the rate.” He agreed with Foster that Rappahannock should join Loudoun’s call for reassembling the Legislature.
“The question is,” warned George Davis, “whether we can anticipate any improvement by the General Assembly reconvening. They may make it worse.”
“I thought so, too,” said Luke. “Maybe we ought to put the pressure on the State Corporation Commission.”
