IF VEPCO is having trouble attracting needed investment dollars, then perhaps the state government could play some role in assisting long-range planning. If their “profit margin” has dwindled in the face of rising costs, then Vepco' should consider drastic belttightening before it goes out to try and squeeze more money from the public. It is not enough for the utility’s officials to keep citing their rising costs—the costs facing all of us have gone\ up, too, and not all of us canV simply go out and extract higher rates from a captive clientele.
So three cheers for Loudoun County, for initiating the call for a special utility session of the General Assembly, an idea which seems to be sweeping the state. And three extra cheers for the Rappahannock Supervisors for supporting the move. Who knows? It just might produce some positive action. □
