I want to put in a few words of praise for some hard - working youngsters in our schools. I mean our track teams, both girls and boys. They deserve praise and the backing of all our people.
The Cross Country team has been outstanding for several years, and consistently wins its class in the state meet. The Spring teams are also winners. These athletes, like Avis, evidently “try harder.”
It is a seven day a week matter that calls for hard work and sacrifice. It is evident that they are proud of their school, their teams, and their coaches.
Now for a Believe-it-or-Not! The above is done without the use of a Track. Imagine a baseball team without a diamond, or a basketball team without a gym! That is the case with our track teams—they don’t have a track.
It would be fine if some existing County organization would take the lead and get a modest amount of bulldozer work done to at least grade a standard quarter-mile track. The writer will help.
