Just before the New Year, some one smashed a hole in our glass sliding door, ripped the screen, and stole practically everything readily movable and pawnable, including an heirloom clock more than 80 years old. In March, garden tools stolen from our locked tool shed were used to dig up two large mountain laurel. But to find 29 gaping holes where once were beautiful plants was an even worse shock.
Even worse, perhaps, was the fact that the plants were dug up so carelessly that the people who presumably bought them thinking they were getting beatiful nursery stock at a low price will, in a few months, have for the most part only dead and dying plants.
