to make the space available/
As Commonwealth’s Attorney George Davis put it at thje February meeting of the Supervisors: “The Courts would like to make this a request, but under the statutes, it could be an order with a writ of mandamus.”
Under Virginia law, it is the responsibility of a county Board of Supervisors to provide sufficient space for the conduct of the courts, including record:keeping. In rapidly growing Prince William County, two extra court rooms had to be constructed when the judges told the county that the old court space was no longer adequate. In Fauquier County, a request for more courtroom space was parlayed by the Supervisors into an elaborate county court and office building project^ a costly matter that still stirs political sparks.
