At no other stage does a child learn more ireeiy tnan a live year old. Physical and emotion are closely interwoven in the learning process. Consider the physical and emotional condition of a pre-^*k school age child who has spent more than two hours of a long day on a school bus plus the long hours in a classroom. He learns freely— will he be developing a healthy attitude towards school or will his emotional and physical exhaustion turn him against what he needs most?
Family relationships contribute much to a child’s readiness for learning. What relationship will a child have with his family when he is exhausted? Good general living builds readiness for learningage, ma&rity, family relationships, life experiences and attitude, each playing a large part of the total readiness.
A well planned HALF DAY kindergarten program can be a most worthwhile experience for any child—EXTEND the preschool summer program for six weeks.
A kindergarten program in Rappahannock at this time would be too high in cost—FIRST to the child, second to the county.
I urge the avid supporters of kindergarten to board one of the buses on the schedule—experience the long ride and day in school —be sure to ride back on the bus too. This will give more insight to the total situation—We have to think of ALL children when planning takes place for changes in our school system. . _
