THE reaction of Aldie citizens to subdivision plans that would double or triple their community; the reaction of New Baltimore area citizens to proposed master planning of their neighborhood; the reaction of the vast majority of citizens who turned out for a planning meeting concerning The Plains and Marshall—all these things lead to an interesting question.
In continuing to plan for growth, even scaled-down, ^affordable” growth, who are county officials in this part of Piedmont Virginia representing? With the exception of a sturdy group in Marshall, the message that has come through most clearly at all of these sessions in that the current residents of the area do not want growth—not orderly growth, not planned growth, not affordable growth, not phased growth, not growth of any kind. They want Aldie, New Baltimore, The Plains, Upper Fauquier, Western Loudoun, to stay as it is, rural and open.
