Hie course—with its lovely setting, excellent view of all fences, good footing and stout, inviting fences—should please both spectators and horsemen. Brainard likened the shape to that of a saucer, with the slopes running to the center, the fences set along the rim. Trees frame the edges and behind them are distant mountains.
The three and a fourth mile timber course with 19 fences is three times around the mile and 120 feet, six-fence loop. Fences are 3’6” stake and bound chestnut rails, set at a slant. They are all alike, 40 feet wide, and are placed with good, uncomplicated approaches.’
Six furlongs is the length of the hurdle course, with the five hurdles set to the left of the timber fences. Hurdle races will be at distances of one and a half and two miles. Running close to the jumping courses in the flat course.
