LOCATED on Route 522 between Culpeper and Sperryville, thepro_ posed 36.92-acre site has been r given tentative approval by District Solid Waste Management Director R.H. Foreman. Foreman said the site looks “fairly good” but added that his approval was subject to soil studies and State Water Control Board concurrence.
As the parcel is located in an Agricultural Zone, Luke explained that the Updikes will have to obtain a special use permit from the Zoning Appeals Board before operating the site as a landfill.
Supervisor Butch Eastham asked if the public would have access to the facility. Luke said that he thought the public would be able to use the landfill, subject to adherence to certain rules and regulations. On the matter of trash disposal, said Luke, “we’ve had a good working relationship with this contractor (Community Trash)...We’ve had a poor working relationship with the public. The public hasn’t helped us worth a damn.”
