August 28, 1976 at New Salem Baptist Church. All are of Culpeper. Hie Rev. James Riley Jr. and the Rev. Sidney Rodriguez performed the ceremony.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal white satin gown and a picture hat. She carried a white Bible with streamers. Mrs. E. B. Updike, Jr. of Culpeper was matron of honor. Her gown was green and she carried a matching bouquet.

The bridegroom’s father was best man and E. B. Updike Jr. was an usher. Billy Hooper was ringbearer and Margaret Ann Spencer, the bride’s cousin, was flower girl. Kyle Printz played the wedding music.

A reception was held in the church social hall with Cindy Coates, the sister of the bride, in charge of the guest book. Others assisting with the reception were Mrs. J. W. Coates, Donna Nalls, Terry Burdette, Jeannie Baker and Tonya Updike.

The bride’s mother chose a mint green gown and a corsage of yellow rosebuds while Mrs. Coates wore a rose gown and white rosebud corsage for her son’s wedding.

Gran parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nethken of Elkton and the bridegroom’s grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Marion Spicer of Rixeyville.

The couple will reside in Culpeper. □
