responsible for all the Loudoun County probationers and parolees. Mike Fling handles all the clients from Fauquier and Louise Ellis works with all the drug and alcohol offenders and all female clients from the three District 25 counties.
FLING explained that each officer has about 50 to 60 clients at a time, aiid that the clients’offences range from petty theft to murder. He said that most of his clients never return to jail, which he says is much better than urban areas where the return rate is sometimes over 60 percent.
Fling said that he believes his work is very important because it helps prevent overcrowding in penal institutions, and helps save taxpayers money. He said that it is also better for first offenders if they are put on probation instead of being sent to jail. He added that probation services save “literally millions of dollars in Fauquier County alone.” □
