The vaccine will be given with a pneumatic vaccine gun rather than the conventional needle. The gun method is less painful and much faster than using a needle, according to Dr. LeGarde. He estimates that his staff will be prepared to administer 500 to 1000 shots per hour with the bulk of the time being taken in record keeping. LeGarde estimates that private physicians will have the vaccine by mid September with Health Department Clinics beginning in early fall.
AS TO the vaccine’s possible harmful side effects, LeGarde answered: “I’m going to take it myself. What better recommendation can I give?”
