and Donald Garnett, trumpeter, presented a program of wedding music. Mrs. Shirley Gosper of Fredricksburg ws soloist.
The bride was escorted by her father. She wore a formal gown of white satin and reembroidered Alencon lace designed with a fitted bodice and natural waistline. The bodice and long tapered sleeves were of Point d’Esprit. The full skirt ended in a cathedral train and the hemline was finished with a deep ruffle edged in lace.
Her veil of illusion was attached to a satin headband covered with lace and seed pearls. Her flowers were a cascade of silk roses, gardenias and ivy.
Mrs. Beverly Koontz of Brandy Station and Miss Martha Jane Carder, the bride’s sisters, were honor attendants. Their formal gowns of blue Fran Soie were fashioned with portrait necklines and tucked elbow length sleeves.
Miss Marice Werth of Arlington and Mrs. Bonnie Gill of Orange were bridesmaids. Their gowns were identical to those of the honor attendants. All the attendants carried bouquets of blue silk roses, white daisy mums and baby’s breath, and wore sprigs of white flowers in their hair. Susan Arlene Walker of Batna was flower girl. She wore a long dress of white eyelet with short puffed sleeves and flowers in her hair.
Mr. Hightower was best man for his son and ushers were John Hightower of Chesapeake, the bridegroom’s brother, Bert Haggett of Springfield and Edward M. Davis of Alexandria.
A reception followed in the social hall of the church.
Mr. and Mrs. Hightower are making their home in Portsmouth where the bride is employed with the Chesapeake City Schools Aid Dr. Hightower is serving an internship at Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
The bridegroom’s parents entertained at a rehearsal dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawton Blankenbaker in Haywood.
Those from Rappahannock attending the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Payne, Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Payne, Jr., Mrs. Elizabeth Streaele, Shannon and Marc, Mrs. Sarah Latham, Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Latham and Cliff Latham, all of Amissville.
