E.N. MONTAGUE was
elected chairman of
the Rappahannock School Board and Beverly Massie was named vice chairman. Montague had served in the vice chairman seat and stepped up to succeed Irvin Kilby who retired from the board. Fanning Baumgardner resigned as assistant county zoning administrator, but continued as county engineer and secretary to the Planning Commission. Speeding motorist in the Town of Washington was the topic at the meeting of the Town Council and a reduction in the speed acme through town was requested of the Highway Department. Martin Orfila joined the staff of the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Department and was introduced to the Supervisors at their July meeting by Sheriff John Walker Jenkins. In the pre-school summer program 69 children attended classes which will run through the rad of July.

A LARGE COLLECTION of
antique dolls were on
exhibit at the Rappahannock Library in connection with the Independence Day celebration. A patriotic pageant was also held at the Library.
Gale winds swept through the county and in Woodville a tree fell across the highway temporarily blocking traffic and another fell on the H.B. Wood property and damaged the house.
Miss Lucy Bowie gave a demonstration on quilting for the Amiss ville Homemakers Club and exhibited some of her extensive collection of handmade quilts.
Joe Atkins of Spenyville celebrated his 90th birthday. Mr. Atkins did his farm chores daily.
