A shelter for battered women is now open and available for use, according to an announcement from Women’s Abuse Shelter, Inc., a group of local men and women concerned about victims of domestic violence.
The shelter located in the Culpeper area, will provide refuge and counseling for battered women and their children from Rappahannock, Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison and Orange counties. Services are provided free of charge to victims who are in need of short-term emergency housing.
Women’s Abuse Shelter, Inc., (WAS) receives its financial support solely from the community. No local, state or federal funds have been used in the effort.
