After training, the volunteers will sign up to be on call for a particular shift during which they will be available to help victims AFTER their arrival at the shelter.
At present, women only are being sought for one-onone volunteers. “We can use men to help in other ways,” Happel said, noting that several local men are involved already with the organization.
Women interested in being one-on-one volunteers should contact Gwen Berner at 8255656. In addition, the public is invited to attend Women’s Abuse Shelter, Inc., meetings held the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Culpeper Presbyterian Church on Main Street.
