School board member Robert Eastham contacted the Rappahannock News last Thursday to complain that remarks he made at the June 8 supervisor meeting were misrepresented.
The News reported that Eastham accused the school board members of fighting, lying and using the students as pawns to achieve their own individual objectives.
According to the Wakefield District representative, he was referring to county residents in general, not to the school board specifically.
Eastham requested that the following remarks, read from a prepared statement at last Monday’s meeting of the board of supervisors, be printed verbatum in order to clear up any misunderstanding.
"My friends, I am tired, 1 am sad and I am sorely disappointed. My wife says I have become stooped since being put on this school board. To prevail upon all of you to put the children ahead of everything else, I would stoop lower and lower until I were on my knees before you—if that is what is required.
