way out of the impasse. "He made a motion that the Board of Supervisors “could not find that it owned the document.” This passed unanimously and freed Mr. Miller to make the donation to the historical society.
The board members thanked Mr1. Miller for returning the document to the county and expressed satisfaction that the historical sfciety weuld be the organization in the best position to protect and display the list.
The supervisors again considered the impact of state budget troubles on the county. County Administrator John McCarthy noted that besides the cut in aid to. the schools, Gov. L. Douglas Wilder’s administration’ will probably recommend that the state force the counties to pick up some of the cost of paying the constitutional officers and their staffs.
He said that the county would probably have to pick up some of the salaries of the sheriff and his deputies and part of the salary of the Commonwealth Attorney. Through this year, the state has paid for all of the salaries of these officers and their staffs.
Mr. McCarthy said that he had not heard of any plan so far to have the county pick up more of the salaries of the Treasurer or Commissioner of Revenue and th«fr assistants. Those salaries are shared between the county and the state.
