As we begin the new year, it’s time for all of us to take lung disease more seriously.
The third-leading cause of death in the United States - lung disease, including lung cancer — is also one of the most preventable. The great maestro Leonard Bernstein may have blessed us with his wonderful music for many more years, if his life had not been cut short by emphysema and lung cancer, related to his heavy smoking.
Disturbing statistics indicate that every year^more people die of lung disease, including lung cancer, than cocaine, heroin, alcohol, abuse, suicide, auto accidents, homicide and AIDS combined.
