Yet, 49 million Americans continue to smoke, thousands of our senior citizens are not immunized against the health-threatening effects of of flu and pneumonia, and more and more children and adults are dying needlessly from asthma.
The mission of the American Lung Association is the conquest of lung disease and the promotion of lung health, but we cannot do it alone. Many of the lung disease related deaths in our community can be prevented through widespread public education. We need more people to quit smoking, to have our high risk population immunized against flu and pneumonia, and to help those with asthma learn how to successfully manage this disease.
People in our community should take preventative measures against lung disease today, before it affects them or someone in their family.
