In calculating next year's funding, the State Department of Education went through the process of indicating what funds the county could expect to receive in various categories and then subtracted $238,534 for “SOQ reduction” to make the payment equal to $1,486,320. That is $202,681, or 12 percent, less than the $1,689,001 the county can expect to receive in those categories this year.
Without the “SOQ reduction” Rappahannock would have been eligible for $1,824,854, an eight percent increase.
Knowing that the coming budget year would be tight, Dr. Gangel had hoped to include some purchases in this year’s budget to lighten the load next year.
