Rappahannock County landowners continue to donate scenic easements on their land to the Virginia Outdoors Foundation, guaranteeing that the land will remain relatively undeveloped.
This past fall Werner Krebser donated an easement on 503 acres, and Nels Parsons donated an easement on about 50 acres. These easements are part of 1,552 acres added to the program in the county in 1990.
The easement granted by Dr. Krebser protects the balance of his 734-acre Meadowbrook Farm on U.S. 522 north of Flint Hill. Col. Parsons’ property is located just outside the Town of Washington.
According to the Piedmont Environmental Council, by the end of 1990 a total of 4,728 acres in Rappahannock were covered by scenic easements, representing 3.4 percent of the land in the county.
