Sixteen children under the age of four were killed in wrecks in Virginia in 1990. Of these, 11 were not in child safety seats.
All 50 states and Washington, D.C. have laws requiring infants and young children to be placed in safety seats and secured with safety belts.
“The Virginia State Police joins other law enforcement agencies and citizens’ groups throughout the nation in recognizing Feb. 10-16 as Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week, a time for everyone to get into the habit of correctly using child safety seats and safety belts,” Col. Corvello said.
