CCLC house
nets $16,000
The Child Care and Learning Center (CCLC) in Washington, Va. is debtfree following the opening of sealed bids on a modular home donated to the center by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bull.
The sale netted CCLC $16,326, more than enough to pay off the remaining $13,300 of the mortgage taken out to finance its pavilion, which cost a total of $36,000, according to CCLC director Rose Ann Sharp.
The remaining $3,000 will be added to the center’s scholarsftf) fund*
“It means a lot to us to be out of debt,” said Mrs. Sharp. “I’m happy it’s going to someone locally who will be. able to do something with it.”
The winning bid of $14,569 was awarded to Charles and Roberta Jenkins of Washington, Va.
The total amount raised was huger because the original winning bidder decided not to take the house, forfeiting the deposit, said Mrs. Sharp.
CCLC president Helen LaCava and treasurer John Hartline opened the six bids at the center on Friday, Jan. 24. About 30 people went to see the building, said Mrs. Sharp, but not all ot ( them bid for it. '
The CCLC staff, former and present board members and major contribi utors will be holding a mortgage burning party Feb. 14 to celebrate the occasion. Call the center at 675-3237 for additional information.
