The Lunch Bunch very often
has discussions on subjects of very little import, however if we followed the rules of gentle society that forbids the subjects of sex, religion and politics, there would be no conversation at all.
If we assume the attendees represent a cross section of the general population of Rappahannock County, then the opinions on politics and other current events reflect the opinions of the nation, since as Rappahannock goes, so goes the nation. ,
With this as the background, we find the following Lunch Bunch polls interesting:
1. Did Anita Hill tell the truth? Yes 7, No 3, Abstain 2.
2. Was William Kennedy Smith guilty? Yes 10, No 1, Abstain 1 (poll taken at time of trial).
3. Would William Kennedy Smith be convicted by the jury? Yes 1, No 11 (taken at time of trial).
4. If you were able to choose any person that you know as president of the United States, who would it be? Jimmy Carter 6, George Bush 2, Fritz Mondale 1, Jim Baker 1, and R.E. Lee 1.
A discussion quite recently involved the flier mailed by our new congressman, the Hon. George Allen, requesting our opinions on the important problems of the day. There were 10 questions that he believes to be the most important facing the country at this time.
We were surprised to find that #4 was: “Congress has hired salaried employees to operate automatic elevators that are designed to be operated by passengers. Should Congress eliminate this and other expensive perks, and apply the savings to deficit reduction?” We did not believe this to be a nugor
