James Franklin Pullen, 45, of Woodville, was found guilty of manufacturing marijuana during a bench trial in front of Circuit Court Judge Carleton Penn on Jan. 31.
According to a report from the Virginia Division of Forensic Science, marijuana found at Pullen’s home amounted to 1.102 ounces.
Pullen was arrested in April after State Trooper S.M. Knick asked for permission to search around his house for a motorcyclist who he said had eluded him. In the back yard the trooper found several potted marijuana plants, so he arrested Pullen, according to the warrant.
A pre-sentence investigation was ordered, to be returned May 11.

• A Bentonville, Va. man was charged with possession of marijuana after being stopped for speeding and an equipment violation on U.S. 522, three-tenths of a mile south of Route 662, at 3:40 p.m. Jan. 28, according to Sgt. D.S. Adams of the State Police.

Rebecca Smith has been named to the fall Dean’s List at Ferrum College.
Students on the Dean’s List at Ferrum must earn grades of “B” or better in all academic subjects taken during the fall semester and achieve a 3.4 or better grade point average out of a possible 4.0.
Smith is the daughter of Margaret Smith of Washington, Va.
Ferrum College is a four-year, private, coeducational liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
