Five regional theatres and individual artists have recently been awarded grants to support the development of original performances. In a highly competitive grant process, awards were made to Hi Theatre of Washington, Va., Carpetbag Theatre of Knoxville, Tenn., Debra Hiers of Atlanta, (la.. Roadside Theatre of Whitesburg, Ky., and Touch from Carrboro, N.C.
The grants were awarded by Alternate Roots, a nonprofit organization serving performing artists in 13 southern states.
