Many anxious women complemented my sensibility in seeking a woman my age. (I actually thought it would have that effect). I received some younger replies but had decided not to respond to them. I figured that any woman as old as I would not play any game except fast and straight ahead.
I was wrong.
My first experience was a woman who wanted to have lunch with me. She gave me her phone number. This was unusual. Usually you meet at some busy spot, like the traffic island at Connecticut and K streets. But she trusted me because I was looking for a date my age. I asked her about that and she assured me that she was within reasonable limits. She had such beautifiit penmanship I went for her.
She was at least 75 and walked with great dignity (very slow). She wanted to go to Clydes for lunch. Then in the following order, the grocery, the post office, the pharmacy and the cleaners. I treated her like a queen; she deserved it. Think of it. She writes one letter a week, total expenditure 29 cents. She gets a nice lunch, company, and all of her weekly chores done without imposing on any friends or relatives and is the envy of every woman she knows.
