There will be nine new teachers at the elementary school this year. There will be two new teaehers in second grade, two in third grade, two in fourth grade and one in sixth grade. Christine Jenkins, who taught seventh grade last year, will . be teaching fifth this year. Also there will be a new remedial reading teacher and a new part-time speech therapist.
About half way through the year last year, the school system added another bus to the fleet. The additional bus picked up a handicapped student in Chester Gap and a few additional students. This year a full extra bus route has been added to serve the Chester Gap to Huntly area and another new route will serve students in the Amissville area. This will bring the number of regular bus routes to 20 from 18 at the beginning of last year.
The school system has hired a consultant to look into future space needs. He has been working at both schools, but particularly at the elementary school. His report is expected by the end of September.
With teachers reporting to work this week, the school system is preparing for the new year and preparing to look carefully at enrollment figures to find out what future trends in enrollment are likely to be.
