well sight, and the distribution system. “The state has approved the treatment center,” said Mr. Fisher. “FmHA also has to approve all phases as well since they are funding most of it,” he added.
Mr. Fisher said that the Town Council hopes to cut the cost down from $1.1 million by possibly not finishing the entire project right away. An additional reservoir that is in the works could very well be put on hold for a while.
“The reservoir that was put in 30s has 100,000 gallon-capacity and is still in good shape,” pointed out Mr. Fisher. “The second reservoir is designed more for fire capacity than actual need.”
‘Town residents pay higher rates for fire insurance because we don’t have the proper rating,” he said. “After the new system is put in, the rates will come down. This plus the fact that people will have a proper water system to depend on at last. ”
The numerous difficulties the town water system has had over the years has promoted various rumors about town water, which, said Mr. Fisher, are completely unfounded. One such rumor that has circulated has been that the many holes in the pipes have been a means for sewage to filter into the town water.
“This is really ridiculous,” said Mr. Fisher. “It’s true that there are a number of pinholes in the pipes, but it is a pressurized system. The only time you can get infiltration is when you have negative pressure so the water can flow into the pipes. Also the drain fields and water lines don’t come anywhere near each other.”
“We also check the water for bacteria on a monthly basis,” he added.
Mr. Fisher estimates that the installation of the distribution system will take any where from two to four months. “Once the bids are returned,” he said, ‘we will be in the construction phase within a month.”
