Health Program Planned

First Place, a Christ-centered health program, will begin 1997 sessions at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church the second week in January. Orientation will be held on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 29th* from 4 to 5:30 p.m. There will be two classes offered this session: Thursday mornings at 9 a.m. and Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. You must attend the orientation to sign up for the First Place class.

First Place was developed to help individuals have a better understanding of their nutritional, physical, spiritual and emotional needs. Weekly classes involve understanding the American Diabetic food exchange program, weighing in, learning a simple Bible verse and keeping a food fact sheet.

First Place has been meeting at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church since September. The six First Place team members increased their physical and spiritual exercise and also lost a cumulative 80 pounds! You do not have to be a member of any church to be a First Place team member. Orientation is the first step to help you learn about this remarkable health program called First Place.

Classes To Begin

Shorin-Ryv Okinawan Karate classes will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Ki Theatre on Gay Street in Washington. Junior classes will be held 4 to 5:30 p.m. and women and senior citizens from 5:30 to 7 p.m. For more information call Arthur Drago, 5th Dan at 635-7554 or Betsy Toth, 2nd Dan at 349-0632. AIDE Workshop Set

Rappahannock County High School will be hosting a financial AIDE workshop on Jan. 6th at 6:30 in the RCHS library. The purpose will be to help parents of college-bound students learn how to complete the FAFSA and learn about grants and loans. Coping with Holiday Grief

As a service to the community. Hospice of the Rapidan will provide a follow-up workshop on coping with holiday grief at 5 p.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 1200 Sunset Lane, Suite 2320 in Culpeper. Anyone who has lost a loved one through any circumstances is welcome to attend. For more information, or to register for this free program, call Hospice of the Rapidan, 825-4840.

Camp For Cloverbuds Set

Youth ages 5-8 can learn about the world around them through a District 4-H Camp. The theme of the camp is “The Great Outdoors.” Hands on activities with an environmental focus will help youth develop an appreciation for nature and the wildlife common to this geographical area. Classes will include a nature hike where youth will examine flora and fauna, making feeders for our bird friends, examining the living creatures in an around our streams, and a guest visit from some special reptiles.

Special events will highlight the weekend and carry out the theme. The cost of the weekend is $40 which includes meals and lodging. Parents may participate with their child in this event, but need to register in advance at the same cost. The registration is firs come, first served and 70 spaces are available. The camp will be held at the Northern Virginia 4-H Center in Front Royal March 7-9.

Adult and teen volunteers are being recruited. Applications are available from your local Extension Office now, and need to be completed and received by the Northern District 4-H Center by Feb. 14. Volunteers may attend at a reduced cost of $25, and will be required to attend a training on Friday, March 7, from 7 to 10 p.m. For more information contact Kenner Love with the Rappahannock Cooperative Extension at 675-3619.
