The Sperryville Gateway Committee presented its public opinion survey at the unusually short monthly meeting on Oct. 15, and in addition, Secretary Barbara Williams presented a model of the heavy bronze plaques available to properties in the town’s historic district.
The committee will send the survey by early November and only to residents of the Piedmont District for a total of 1,000 copies, said Buck Payne, committee member. Names and addresses will come from the voter registration lists and property tax rolls. Chairman Tom Junk said that at 62 cents per letter he would hand deliver surveys to residents on Main Street.
The survey will also be published in the Rappahannock News for anyone outside of Piedmont District who wishes to participate, Payne said.
Committee member Barbara Williams presented a slightly scaled down version of the bronze plaques, which will be 8-by-ll inches. “Anyone with a historic property can have one for $50,” she said. There is no shipping fee since she said she would drive to Chantilly to get them. The plaques vdll be available in early November and 25 have been ordered already, she said.
