A blank area on a plaque can be inscribed later for several dollars more to include individual names, dates or other information at the property owners’ discretion. The plaques will help the preservation effort and with getting grant money, she added.
Chairman Tom Junk said that he thought it was “a great deal” because several years ago, he said, he priced a similar plaque at $150.
Committee member Bayard Catron said that being in the National Register would not place any restrictions on a property since the village has no ordinances such as .those ia the Town of Washington. Being in the National Register only makes property values go up, he added, since the plaques would identify buildings as special properties of historical interest.
Sperryville was designated as a historical district because of its distinctive architecture.
