Last Things of “death, judgment, heaven and hell,” we must resolve to “slug it out” just as St. Paul encouraged Timothy to “Fight the good fight of the faith” (1 Tim 6:12). ;
Th^ day of death and judgment might be compared to the Super Bowl of our spiritual life. How do athletes prepare for the Super Bowl? They practice, persevere, and fearlessly face accomplished adversaries during the regular season. Great athletes never give up or give in to discouragement even after bitter failure.
We might take a page from the play book of champions as we prepare for the Day of Judgment. But we have a few more pages in the Christian playbook that make victory inevitable. Jesus himself promises that he “shall give (us) the wisdom in speaking that all (our) adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.” Without presumption, the Lord consoles us with the promise that “surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Mat 28:20).
