Sunday’s rising temperatures, 81 degrees, brought out hikers, picnickers, short sleeves and bare feet. Wednesday afternoon told a different story. Cold winds swept flurries of snow around and merchants stocks of anti-freeze were depleted. Baldwin’s Grocery sold completely out and Mr. Baldwin said he had none left for his own car. Folks were shivering and complaining, but not doing a thing about the weather.
The Rappahannock Hunt met at Jackson Hill, the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bruce on Saturday for the second scheduled hunt of the season. Twelve riders took to the field. Mrs. Bruce and her houseguest, Mrs. Iva Singleton served refreshments to the group.
Boy Scout Troop 65 of Sperryville spent the weekend at Camp Rock Enon near Gore. Attending the scout camp were C.E. Dodson, Larry Nethers, Phil Hawkins, Tim Kilby, Bill Durden, Prentiss Greenaway, Jackie Brown, Billy Mundy, Mike Titchenell, Leslie Titchenell and Joey Dodson as mascot. Scout Master Sonny Brown and Assistant Master Joe Durden accompanied the boys for the weekend.
The annual Thanksgiving dinner will be held by the Sperryville Methodist Church on Thanksgiving Day from 4 to 7 p.m. The dinner will be $1.25 for adults and 75 cents for children. The menu will consist of the traditional turkey and all the trimmings.
