Mr. Welch moved that the board approve the service for 29 weeks and, after some delay, the motion was seconded by Hampton District’s Bryant Lee on the condition that the 29 week period be considered a trial period only.
In his final comment before the vote, Mr. Welch again noted the call he had received in opposition but, he said, “my gut tells me otherwise. I just think it’s worth a try”
Mr. Estes said that he too had received many calls opposed to the idea and that he “did a lot of soul searching” and concluded that the service would be of benefit to many county residents who did not have access to transportation.
The board approved the motion, with Mr. Welch, Mr. Lee and Mr. Estes voting “aye,” and Mr. Frazier and Mr. Anderson voting “nay.”
