THE NIGHT SKY
On hearing the news of the shuttle explosion and the loss of the astronauts, county resident Christopher Moyles emailed this message on Rappnet: “This Christmas I finally got a telescope that I have wanted for years. On the few clear nights we’ve had since then, I’ve been out in the garden figuring out how to work the thing. So far my highlights have included seeing the rings of Saturn, Jupiter and its moons, the craters on our moon and the star clusters of the Pletdes. Last year I was lucky enough to watch the space shuttle cross the night sky while attached to the International Space Station. "In those quiet few minutes watching the night sky, the questions of why human beings dream of journeying into space are easily answered.”
