The Inn at Little Washington’s 25th anniversary bash was, as one guest said, one of the most glittery parties and collection of people since George Washington danced in a tavern in this charming village.
Everything sparkled and twinkled from the luminarias lining each side of the road into the town to the diamond-jeweled necklaces of the rich and famous who mingled over cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in the $2 million kitchen while musicians stood on counters high above them playing.
The red carpet was rolled out for them all — celebrities, politicians, journalists and local folks. News teams from The Washington Post and The New York Times covered the event.
Guests from as far away as London came to congratulate the Inn’s owners Patrick O’Connell and Reinhardt Lynch who took perfectionism and made it into a world renown Five Star, Five Diamond inn and restaurant.
A very proud mother, Gwendolyn O'Connell of Clinton, Md. smiled throughout the 10-course, seven-wine retrospective meal with a price tag of $1,978, the same as the date of the restaurant's opening night on Jan. 28, 1978.
