answer on
town liability

Complaints about possible town liability and the Sunnyside Farms’ pavilion plus discussion of the new wastewater treatment plant were highlights of the Washington Town Council meeting last Wednesday night
The meeting began with a closed session as rounn! members met privately with town attorney John Rer.n< tt and attorney Hank Day to discuss strategy on a lawsuit against the town Filed by Sid and Mary Catherine- Worle\ who are seeking to build a house on the outskirts of Main Street. Day of Warrenton is representing the town in the lawsuit.
When the public was admitted, after standing outside in pouring rain 15 minutes past the scheduled meeting time, the council had no comment or announcement to make concerning the closed session.
The most heated discussion of the evening came when resident Bill Tieckelmann asked attorney Bennett about liability and costs if a lawsuit judgment exceeds the amount of the town’s insurance. He was referring to the Worley lawsuit.
Tieckelmann has asked that same question at several town meetings but has received no response from Bennett. In October, Bennett assured him that he would give him a response at this November meeting.
It would be “an obligation of the town,” said Bennett Tieckelmann responded that this was not an appropriate answer and that Bennett was “stonewalling,” and should consider stepping down as town attorney.
