Winners
We are pleased to acknowledge — once again
— that people from tiny, rural
Rappahannock County have prevailed in a competition with folks from larger, more populous jurisdictions.
In this case, it was the relatively new Rappahannock County High School, Cheerleading Competition Squad.
These young women faced squads from eight other schools in the Region B Competition last Saturday in Strasburg, and by coming in second, earned a shot at the Virginia High School League state competition in VCU in Richmond next weekend.
Like any team effort, the RCHS Panther Competition Squad got to this point through hard work and long hours of practice, matched by the training and encouragement given by their coach. That’s a combination that we think will be hard to beat.
Over the next few days, the squad will be workig to smooth out any rough edges that it discov‘red while performing last Saturday. We wish them the best as they travel to Richmond and move on up to the next level — for the first time.
Like other sports, cheerleading demands skill, agility and teamwork. But the desire to win — when you aren’t on the mat directly confronting your competitors — must be even stronger.
This latest recognition of local excellence has already made us proud.
The squad will go to Richmond with the best wishes of its fellow students, teachers, parents and friends. We’re confident that if the young women on the Panther Cheerleading Competition Squad want the top spot bad enough, they’ll get it!
