Every rural road has unique safety concerns. In our opinion, the Grimsley Road intersection with Route 729 on the west end and the steep, narrow “S” turn on the north end make this a dangerous potential school bus route. The “S” turn and the 729 intersection have already been hard surfaced. Come drive the road and judge for yourself.
In addition, we have friends whose children have ridden school buses on gravel roads for years with no mention of hard surfacing them.
We feel it is a waste of taxpayers money to hard surface even a portion of the road. The majority of landowners and residents want the road to remain gravel. VDOT has stated this is not a VDOT transportation priority. VDOT literature about the new Rural Rustic Road Program states, “The citizens along the road should support this improvement concept.”
The VDOT five-year accident report for Grimsley road lists two minor accidents resulting in vehicular damage only. There are roads in this county with serious safety hazards. Use the $30,000 to fix these first.
