In other complaints, Charlie Kevis, a member of the town’s Architectural Review Board, said that the Sunnyside Farms’ pavilion does not match the decor of the town. “We were promised a park but instead we got a furniture bazaar and brica-brac bazaar,” he said. “The town can okay an arch but it has no control overall.”
Resident Mitzie Young also complained about Sunnyside, telling the council that outdoor sales are not permitted in town, and Sunnyside is in violation of that regulation.
Tbwn attorney Bennett said that there was no such regulation or ordinance. Young maintained that that rule was passed several years ago by the council.
In other business, the mayor noted that many of the town’s hand-made wooden street name signs are 30 years old and in need of repairs or replacement. Nobody was in favor of replacing them with the standard green VDOT signs.
Town resident Gary Schwartz, a sign maker, said that he will volunteer to help design and make wooden signs more in the style of the current ones. Also discussed was the need for street lights on parts of Piedmont Avenue.
