Some motorists often forget that it is everyone’s job to keep work zones safe. The Virginia Department of Transportation wants to protect us and our highway work crews. These three steps can mean the different between life and deuth.

1. When you see the orange signs, be ulert for changing conditions ahead.

2. Slow down and expect the unexpected. I’uy attention to your surroundings. You may encounter lane shifts, construction vehicles entering and leaving the roadway or changed speed limits.

3. Minimize distractions! Avoid changing radio stution* and using mobile phones while driving in a work zone.

Highwuy work continues to be one of the most dangerous occupations in America. Let’s do our part to keep highway workers safe in work zones by giving them a brake and going slow in the cone zone.
