Gives New Strain.

M. M. Parker, assisrant director of the station, says the Vate? collard is a non-heading type that is low-growing and broad! The leaves are thick-textured with a high ratio" of blade to stalk*— greatly reducing waste when they are prepared for cooking.
He reports that there has so far been little injury to even the largest plants fwhen wintered over in the field.
The station now has about 20 different selections of the Vates strains, and most of them show “considerable improvement’’ in type over the older varieties. The station plans to multiply several of them for distribution next year.
