New Teacher At WHS

Mr. Gerald Hicks, a native of Hagerstown, Md., has accepted a position at W.H.S. Due to the large number of pupils in the ikth grade, it was necessary to divide the grade into two sections. Mrs. Burford is home room teacher for 8-B and Mr. Hicks for 8-L.

Mr, Hicks is a graduate of Bridgewater College. While there he was a member of the track team anti played in the band orchestra.

For one year Mr. Hicks taught in Buchanan.

A twin brother of Mr. Hicks teaches at Winchester.

While in the Army for a year he played in the band at Camp Lee.

As the pupils of W.H.S. are very much interested in basketball, they will be interested to learn that Mr. Hicks has formerly been a basketball coach.

The faculty and pupils join to welcome Gerald Hicks to W.H.S.

Junior News

After a joyous and happy holiday season the Juniors are back, ami have settled down to work. We are sorry Edwin Scroggins is absent. We are all wondering if' tile candy given to him as a Chri.-tmas present by .Mrs. •Corbin, could have made him sick.

Six juniors have received ba~ketbal! uniforms—throe boys and three girls. We hope there "id be ore in two more since tiiere are yet some suits to lop given out.

A New Member of WHS

We of Washington High School wish to welcome Guntis Veils Baltins to our school. We feel hono.ed to have a student from Germany m our school, lie has been [daced m !i»e -ixtii grade, and when a-ked if he enjoyed school m America he said that he did. lie ha' been in our country' since September. He -peaks enough English so that, be can be understood. We all want to help Gunt.s. and hope he will fee! as much at home here a- Tie did in Germane.
