A 1940 Ford, belonging to Clabert Smoot, was destroyed by fire on Wednesday afternoon. According to reports Mr. Smoot parked his car in a field on the Whipporwill Farm, near the town reservoir and came on to town. During his absence the fire which had gotten quite a headway was reported to the Rappahannock Volunteer Fire Company by someone who happened to be passing by and noticed it. The interior of the car was completely dest/oyed. 1

The fire company was called out on Saturday afternoon to the farm of Rasby Clark, near Flint Hill. Part of the fence around the farm had been ignited from a pile of brush which was being burned at the time. Little damage resulted as the fire was nearly extinguished by the time the fire company arrived on the scene.

Bridge Parties

Mrs. R. M. Menefee and Mrs. R. G. Quaintance entertained jointly at a bridge party Thursday night at the home of Mrs. Menefee. The guests included Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Sanford, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Winfrey, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Hickman, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Thornton, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Wood, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Johnson, Jr., Miss Mary Miller Wood, Robert L. Brown, and Dr, John P. Snead. Those joining the party for refreshments were Mr. and Mrs. James W. Fletcher, Mr. and Mrs. J. Rodes Brown, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Downing Wood.

Mrs. Quaintance and Mrs. Menefee were hostesses at bridge on Friday Afternoon when those playing included Mrs! C. H. H. Branch,. Mrs. J.
