Owns Unusual Animals

V. H. Keeler of Washington is the owner of something very unique in the way of pets. According to Mr. Keeler, these rare hamsters make ideal pets.

A hamster is a small mammal, red-brown in color, and weighs about six ounces when grown.

Hamsters were found in Syria about 20 years ago. They were discovered burrowed about eight feet underground. The first one located was a mother with 12 young. One remarkable item of information given on hamsters is that one pair will have over 1,000 progeny in a single year.

The little animals have mouselike heads, stubby tails, and play like squirrels in their cages. If a piece of food is offered which they do not like, they \4etreat immediately to a corner of the cage and wash themselves very much as a cat would do. They bury food for future reference in the manner of a dog.

Mr. Keeler didn’t say what hours were most suitable for inspection, but as soon as possible most of us with good healthy curiosity are going to see those things.
