By Tuesday my friends wished me a Merry Christmas along with all the snow, -and then it’s back to rainy weather. It has been a firm conviction of mine for many a year that a rainy day was meant for one thing only—a good book accompanied by a good fire and the knowledge that there weren’t a thousand and one things that you should be doing.

The latest contribution to the county’s cultural development is in the music category. Down at Gip Wharton’s there’s a new record on the juke-box. It is not a Braillowsky’s Chopin Waltz. The title is “I Won’t Go Huntin’ With You, Jake.”

Eloiae

We were sitting by the river,

Eloise, Where the waters dance and

quiver in the breeze; Overhead the birds were winging And their songs were sweetly

singing Till their melody was ringing Through the trees.

And as we sat there chumming,

Eloise, While we listened to the humming

of the bees, You said when I made money As the little bees made honey, I should be your solid sonny. O! You tease!

As we sat beneath the willows,

Eloise, - . Busoms heaving like the billows

of the seas, Oh, how sweet was the reflection That by prudent circumspection I was winning your affection By degrees.

All at once a sound went ringing

trough the trees, Seemed to shatter e’en the sighing
