Mrs. Ida Coknpton Brown
Mrs. Ida Compton Brown died Friday, March 3, at her home in Washington, after having been in declining health for several months. Mrs. Brown, 79, was the daughter of John ^Albert Compton and Sarah Frances Brown of Rappahannock.
Mrs. Brown taught school in Rappahannock and Page co'. nties for a number of years. In 1917 she married Luther V. Brown of Portales, New Mexico, where she made her home until his death in 1937, at which time she returned to her home in Washington.
Funeral services were held at the Compton home Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. Norman J. Flythe, pastor of Washington Methodist church, and Rev. M. E. Sliger, pastor of the Baptist church, officiating. Interment was in the family section of the Masonic cemetery.
Pallbearers were C. J. Miller, W. C. Campbell, D. D. Miller, C. T. Bruce, W. A. Miller, and E. S. Wagner. Honorary pallbearers included R. V. Snead, C. E. Giles, L. J. Turner, Mahlon Ramey, Dr. J. P. Snead, T. C. Lea, Paul Walker, H. T. Updike, D. C. ‘ Link, L. V. Merrill, E. M. Jones, C. G. Reid, B. M. Miller, B. R. Cox, C. O. Oden, A. M. Verner, C. R. Racer, J. W. Critzer, A. J. Slaughter, L. M. Tapp, Downing Wood, and David Corbin.
Mrs. Brown is survived by one sister, Miss Margaret Compton, and three brothers, Floyd E. Compton and William E. Compton of W’ashington, and Ernest Compton of Tampa, Florida.
